I was having trouble with walking so Carol went off photographing and I stayed
in the main square just watching life go by. There were several birds flitting
around but I had left my binoculars on board so I snapped them with my telephoto so I could
identify them later. Hand held at that magnification will not give a sharp
image but this one can still be recognised as a wheatear, a passage migrant to us at
home. There was a large carved whale on which some children were playing, lost in their
make-believe. It reminded me of when, as youngsters, we used to climb the
young elms in the park and pretend we were in the rigging of schooners.
We missed the folk dancing and Kaffe-mik as we couldn't find where it
was. In the end we found out from someone who had been there and we arrived
just in time for the last piece of cake as they were closing up. We did see some
of the boating events as they were easy to find. As you can see they were
appreciated too. All the ports we went to seemed to make an effort to promote
their place for tourism, but for me Nanortalik out did them all.
