Land of the Midnight Sun - Ocean Princess

The Lysefjord tour is very beautiful.  You can book through the ship, directly with Rodne.no online, or at the dock.   The tour starts as you head out of the dock with a description of what is around you.   The factory where they build the oil rigs just looks like any other industrial type building.   It might be different if they had a near completed rig there at the time.   There are quite a few very expensive looking flats and houses, with private moorings, alongside the fjord.  Those close to the town are obviously more expensive.  We were told that those out in the countryside were used as holiday homes and rarely came on the market which keeps the price up.   They are traditionally passed down within the family for generations.   On the way to Lysefjord we took a diversion through a side fjord where we had to drop speed and could see these well, some people waving back at us.

Once in Lysefjord itself we started to see the best of the scenery, with highlights being the waterfall, where they collected some water in a bucket which you could taste, and Pulpit Rock.   This doesn't look much as it is so high and far away it seems quite small, but take a picture anyway and then compare it with the one on their web page where it is seen from above with all the people on it.   We saw some mountain goats alongside which had found shelter from the rain under an overhang.   These were wild goats but had got used to being fed by the boat tours and so stayed in the area to the benefit of both parties.   The gulls and crows waiting for the left overs had also learned where to find an easy meal.

On the way back we stopped for coffee and pancake sized waffles with sour cream and jam, scrumptious.   The whole trip was three hours of thorough enjoyment, despite the rain, which I can no longer remember.   I even saw an eagle, though it was too far away to identify.
