Rouen port information

I didn't know until I booked a Cruise Maritimie cruise to there, that Rouen had a cruise terminal.   Not only that, they handle turnrounds too.   They have space for two ships and the larger berth takes up to 240 metres in length which is quite a big ship.   In some ways it is like Tilbury, a fair way up a winding river which leads to a capital city.   There are height restrictions due to the bridges, unlike Tilbury which has no bridges to worry about.   If you can get under the QE2 bridge then you are good all the way up to London, Tower Bridge.   However, although I have not been there, I would imagine that it is a very picturesque journey from Honfleur to Rouen compared with Southend to Tilbury.   For big ships, the terminal at Rouen is about as far as they can go.   The next bridge, Gustave Flaubert Bridge, looking a bit like Tower Bridge (you can just see it in the distance in the view of the town) is just after the terminal and is the last bridge that accomodates tall ships.   After that the bridges are all low ones, limiting passge to barges, flat river cruisers and the like.

Rouen is a very historique town and has much to offer, too much for a flying visit, so it is worth coming again.   It can be used as a jumping off point for Giverny and Monet or even Paris.   You can get Normanndy tours, as you can from Honfleur and Le Havre, but Cherbourg is better, being closer.
