Svolvaer port information

Library of Congress,

Svolvær is the administrative centre of Vågan Municipality (9,200 inhabitants) in Nordland County, Norway.  It is located on the island of Austvågøya in the Lofoten archipelago.  The tendancy is to regard the Lofoten Islands as just the bit at the end of the top of Norway, but they do go quite a way up into what looks like mainland Norway.  As boats can cut through to get to the northern ports (Tromso, etc.) then everything to the left (going north) must be islands.

The Lofoten Islands are very picturesque and well worth a visit.  The economy is based on fishing, with tourism rising fast.
