Wismar port information

Wismar was a flourishing town in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries during the heydays of the Hanseatic League.  After WWII it became part of the Russian zone and then DDR, during this time development as a port took place but little in the way of restoration of the damaged historic buildings until reunification.  It is now beginning to build up its tourist trade.

The old quarter, with its distinctive gabled architecture and cobbled stone streets, is a wonderful legacy (restoration) of Wismar´s Hanseatic heyday   Excursions from this historic city can take you to Berlin, Hamburg or Lubeck.
