Zeebrugge port information

web site

Zeebrugge, as the word looks, comes from two words; "zee" = "sea" and "brugge" = Bruges, it means Bruges by the sea.  In the past there was a small port here, but a lot of the traffic went up the canal to Bruges which was a thriving merchant town.  As ships got bigger the port grew and the canals were used less.  A pity as it would be a nice way to get to Bruges from the cruise port.

The port serves the Belgian fishing fleet, ferries to the UK (and else where perhaps), a cruise terminal for Belgium (Bruges, Ostend, Brussels, Ypres, and others are in easy reach), a container port, and an export port for continental motor companies.
