Kirkwall port information

Kirkwall is on the northern part of an isthmus, with Scapa (of Scapa Flow fame) in the south.   It is capital of the Orkney archipelago, the Royal Burgh of Kirkwall sits almost exactly in the centre of Mainland, dividing the island into East and West.   Modern day Orkney is a hive of creative activity and its craft workshops are perfect for a special souvenir.   Most ships will either berth at the Hatston Ferry terminal just north of the town or anchor in the bay and tender in.   Some of the smaller ships may berth in the town's harbour.
